Midnight on All Hallows’ Eve canvas tote

A beautifully sturdy heavyweight 270gsm cotton canvas tote, chosen for its premium, substantial feel. Much thicker and more structured than a standard lightweight tote, it’s designed to be used again and again while still feeling special enough to gift.

Measuring approximately 39 × 42 × 13 cm, with gusseted sides, a generous 20-litre capacity and 58 cm handles, it has plenty of room for books, shopping, market finds and whatever treasures you collect along the way.

Each bag is made to order in my little village studio, helping to reduce unnecessary stock and waste. As every one is individually made, there may be slight variations in placement and finish- part of the charm of something produced on a small scale rather than mass made.

The design features my hand-drawn ghost sitting quietly on a country stile beneath a midnight sky, inspired by one of my favourite pieces of All Hallows’ Eve folklore.

In Welsh tradition, Nos Calan Gaeaf- All Hallows’ Eve- was regarded as a spirit night, when strange things might happen and the dead were believed to walk again. One particularly eerie belief held that at midnight, the ghosts of the dead could be seen on every stile. Stiles and crossroads were already liminal places- thresholds between one place and another- making them the perfect setting for stories of wandering spirits and encounters with the otherworld. 

My little ghost seems considerably less frightening than the old stories suggest, though quite content to sit on the stile beneath the stars and watch the path until morning.
