Colourful autumn tea towel

A little collection of autumn treasures, gathered from the hedgerows and woodland floor and given a colourful folkloric twist.

This tea towel features my hand-drawn illustrations of crab apples, acorns, hazelnuts, conkers, rosehips, rowan berries and fly agaric mushrooms, each surrounded by rich autumnal colours and tiny golden details inspired by the magic and superstition of the season.

Every piece has its own connection to British folklore. Rowan has long been associated with protection against misfortune and witchcraft, while the mighty oak and its acorns have symbolised strength, endurance and good luck. Hazelnuts were linked with wisdom and were once used in old All Hallows’ Eve love-divination customs, while crab apples echo centuries of apple folklore, harvest traditions and fortune-telling games. The bright red fly agaric brings a little woodland enchantment, with its long association with fairy tales, magic and the mysterious places found beyond the well-trodden path. Rosehips and conkers complete the pattern, familiar autumn finds that mark the turning of the year.

The colourful borders give this version a slightly more playful, vintage-folk feel, while still celebrating the plants, fruits and woodland finds that have gathered stories around them for generations.

Every illustration is drawn by hand by me and made in my little village studio, inspired by British folklore, seasonal traditions and the small bits of magic hidden in the countryside.

Each tea towel is handmade to order, meaning I only produce what is needed to help reduce unnecessary waste. Because every one is made individually, there may be slight variations in placement and finish- part of the charm of something handmade rather than mass produced.

Made from 100% organic cotton, approximately 50 × 70 cm, with a handy hanging loop.
