A beautifully sturdy heavyweight 270gsm cotton canvas tote, chosen for its premium, substantial feel. Much thicker and more structured than a standard lightweight tote, it’s designed to be used again and again while still feeling special enough to gift.

Measuring approximately 39 × 42 × 13 cm, with gusseted sides, a generous 20-litre capacity and 58 cm handles, there’s plenty of room for books, shopping, market finds and all the little treasures collected on an autumn wander.

Each bag is made to order in my little village studio, helping me avoid unnecessary stock and reduce waste. As every one is individually made, there may be slight variations in placement and finish- part of the charm of something made on a small scale rather than mass produced.

The design features my hand-drawn Colourful Autumn Folklore pattern, filled with familiar finds from British hedgerows, orchards and woodland floors: crab apples, rowan berries, rosehips, hazelnuts, acorns, conkers and fly agaric, each surrounded by its own rich, colourful border and tiny golden details.

There’s folklore tucked amongst the autumn treasures too. Rowan was traditionally regarded as a protective tree and used in charms against witchcraft and misfortune, while the oak and its acorns have long represented strength and endurance. Hazelnuts were associated with wisdom and also found their way into old All Hallows’ Eve divination customs, when nuts were placed in the fire to tell the fortunes of lovers. Apples have an especially strong connection with the season, appearing in harvest customs and old Halloween fortune-telling games, while the unmistakable red-and-white fly agaric adds a little of the strange, enchanted feeling of the autumn woodland.

The colourful borders give this design a brighter, playful folk-art feel while still celebrating the old beliefs, seasonal traditions and familiar countryside treasures that inspired it.

A thick, roomy and reusable canvas bag for folklore lovers, autumn wanderers and anyone who rarely makes it home from a woodland walk without an acorn or conker in their pocket.
