Autumn tea towel

A little gathering of everything you might find tucked along an old country lane as summer slips into autumn.

This tea towel features my hand-drawn autumn pattern, filled with crab apples, acorns, hazelnuts, conkers, rosehips, rowan berries and unmistakable red-and-white fly agaric mushrooms- each chosen for the stories, superstitions and seasonal traditions surrounding them.

Rowan has long been regarded as a protective tree in British folklore, while oak and acorns are symbols of strength, endurance and good fortune. Hazelnuts were associated with wisdom and were once used in love divination, particularly around All Hallows’ Eve. Crab apples bring a little wild orchard magic, echoing centuries of apple customs, harvest celebrations and fortune-telling traditions, while the striking fly agaric has become entwined with tales of enchantment, fairies and the mysterious woodland world. Rosehips and conkers complete the pattern- familiar autumn treasures gathered from hedgerows and beneath trees year after year.

Every illustration has been drawn by hand by me and made in my little village studio, inspired by British folklore, seasonal traditions and the overlooked magic of the countryside.

Each tea towel is handmade to order, meaning I only make what is needed to help reduce unnecessary waste. As every one is individually made, there may be small variations in placement and finish- part of the charm of something made by hand rather than mass produced.

Made from 100% organic cotton, approximately 50 × 70 cm, with a handy hanging loop.
